Did You Know?
Queens usually go on only one or two
mating flights shortly after emerging
from their cells. Once they have mated
with about a dozen drones (ideally)
remainder of their lives.

A queen can control whether or not
she lays fertile (produce female eggs)
or infertile (produce drones) but it's up
to the workers to decide if the fertilized
eggs will become queens or other
workers.

A drone-laying queen was either
reproductive organs, or simply outlived
her supply of genetic material.
