Beekeeping Basics

Are you interested in keeping bees Spring 2011? Now's the time to start
your adventure. This very popular class is an excellent introduction to
beekeeping.

This 4-hour class will cover these essential topics:

*  Equipment (Including a brief summary of alternative designs, such as      
Warre' and Top Bar, but focusing upon Langstroth)

* Basic Bee Biology

* The Beekeeper's Calendar (starting with installing your bees in spring)

* Hive Manipulation Techniques

This lecture class is to be presented at the Ruhl Bee Supply store. No
protective gear is required. Bring a snack, as we'll have a 20-minute break,
and plan to stick around for an extended Q&A session.

Class: Cold Process Soapmaking: Saturday,
October 2, 2010 @ 2pm
Diana and John Thompson return to RBS! This is an excellent hands-on
class for beginning and intermediate soap makers, focusing on
cold-process recipes featuring beeswax, clays and natural fragrances.

All materials are supplied--you bring protective eyewear, an apron (or
wear old clothes), and a towel to insulate your very own soap mold
(supplied) containing the equivalent of 4 round bars of soap.

In addition to experiencing first-hand soapmaking techniques and safety,
you'll come away with some excellent, easy-to-follow recipes, a list of
resources and suppliers, and--best of all--the confidence and enthusiasm
to make your own soap at home. This is a great class to take if you plan to
make some of your own holiday gifts!

John and Diana, from Harmony Soapworks in Oysterville, Washington are
the creators of our wildly popular Beekeeper's Soap. They're a fantastic
teaching team, too!

Introduction to Candle Making:
October 2, 2010 @ 5pm
Get an early start on your homemade holiday gifts by taking our
introductory class.  Candles make lovely gifts and are an elegant way to
decorate your home for the holidays.  Learn how to make Rolled, Dipped,
Pillar, Container, Votives and Tea Light Candles with beeswax, soy wax and
natural additives such as essential oils and eco-friendly candle dye.  There
will be some hands on projects as well as some that will be demonstrated
for you.  Beeswax bowls will also be demonstrated. The class will include
information about different types of wax, choosing the correct wicking,
adding scent and color, safety and more!  There will also be time alloted
for Q and A and after class for shopping in our newly expanded Natural
Craft store.

Introduction to Aromatherapy:
October 1, 2010 @ 7pm
Ruhl Bee is very excited to introduce a new class: Introduction to
Aromatherapy.  In the past several months we have expanded our Natural
Crafts department to include more Soap & Skin Care, Candle and
Aromatherapy supplies including a full line of Essential Oils.  Join us Friday,
Oct 1st @ 7 pm as Certified Aromatherapist Kathy Steinbock will guide us
in the following topics: History of Aromatherapy, Explaining the
sense/mechanism of smell, How essential oils work and how to use them.  
You will get to smell/sample many oils and receive specific information of
their uses/benefits.
